Website for a Photographer: A Portfolio That Brings Bookings

Bohdana Lakhman, ISKRA October 2026 5 min read

Short answer: a photographer's website is a curated portfolio, clear packages with prices and a simple date-booking form. Speed and a clean presentation of your work matter most: a heavy gallery that loads slowly scares a client away before the first photo appears.

What a photographer's website needs

  • A curated portfolio. 20–40 of your best shots, grouped by direction (weddings, portraits, family, brand), not 500 photos in a row.
  • Packages and prices. What is included: shoot length, number of edited photos, delivery time. Specifics remove unnecessary questions.
  • A booking form. Date, type of shoot, city, contact. It helps if busy dates are visible.
  • Reviews. 3–5 reviews with photos: clients of a photographer buy trust in the person who will stay next to them all day.
  • About you. A photo, your style, how a shoot goes. People choose not only the pictures but the author.

Speed matters more than effects

A gallery of dozens of heavy photos is the main reason a site is slow. Compress images (WebP format), load them as the visitor scrolls, use a width of 1600–2000 px, and do not put full-screen video in the background. More than half of visits come from smartphones, so test the site there. Why this is critical is covered in why a slow website loses customers.

Instagram or a website

Instagram is a shop window, the website is where a person decides. On Instagram it is hard to compare packages, show prices and leave a request that will not get lost in direct messages. A website linked from your profile collects bookings in one place. More in Instagram or a website for business.

How much a photographer's website costs

  • One-page portfolio site — $200–500.
  • Multi-page site (directions, packages, blog, reviews) — $500–1200.
  • With online booking and a deposit — $1000–2000+.
A website builder (such as Tilda) is fine to start, while a custom site gives more freedom for the gallery. A comparison is in website builder or custom code.

Frequently asked questions

How many photos should be on the site?

20–40 selected shots grouped by direction. It is better to show fewer but the strongest.

Do I need a separate website if I have Instagram?

Yes. A website shows up in Google, collects requests in one place and lets you list prices and packages.

Can I accept a deposit on the website?

Yes, online payment of a deposit can be added to date booking. It adds to the development cost.
