Logo Design for Business: The Process and What You Actually Get

Bohdana Lakhman, ISKRA Updated — August 2026 5 min read

When people talk about branding, they often picture something abstract — strategy, positioning, long presentations. But for most small businesses, it all starts with something concrete and tangible: a logo. This is exactly the part of identity work ISKRA does regularly — so let me walk you through how it actually happens.

What a logo actually is

A logo isn't just a picture — it's the visual code of a business. It needs to work equally well in miniature, as a Telegram icon or a website favicon, and at large scale, on a sign or a banner. That's exactly why a good logo is always simpler than it first appears.

Stages of logo design

  • Brief — who you are, who you work for, what associations the logo should create.
  • Research — a look at competitors and references, so you don't accidentally end up with someone else's logo.
  • Concepts — a few different directions to choose from, not just one "take it or leave it" option.
  • Finalization — refining the chosen direction: proportions, colors, typeface.
  • Packaging — all the file formats you need, for print and for the web.

What you get in the end (not just the logo)

  • The logo in several versions — the primary mark, a simplified icon, and a monochrome version for dark and light backgrounds.
  • Brand colors with exact codes (HEX/RGB), so they stay consistent everywhere.
  • A type pairing for headings and body text.
  • Basic templates — a business card, a social media cover, an email signature.

How many logo options you should see before choosing

Usually 2–3 concepts at the start is enough — each built on a different idea, not just a different color of the same option. From there, one direction is chosen and refined in detail. Asking for "10 options" rarely produces a better result — it just blurs the focus and stretches out the timeline.

How much it costs and how long it takes

  • A simple logo — $100–250, roughly 3–5 days.
  • Logo + basic identity package (colors, fonts, templates) — $300–800, roughly 1–2 weeks.
Timeline and price depend on the number of revisions and how clear the brief is at the start — the more precisely you know what you want, the faster and cheaper the result.
